How Often Should You Get a Facial?
By Berenice CasneiroFounder of BC Beauty Spa11 min read

Quick answer
Most skin does well with a facial every 4 to 6 weeks, which matches the month or so your outer skin layer takes to renew. Adjust from there:
- Oily, congested, or breaking out: every 2 to 3 weeks for the first 2 or 3 visits, then monthly.
- Dry or dull: every 4 weeks.
- Sensitive or rosacea-prone: every 6 to 8 weeks.
How often should you get a facial for your skin type?
Pick the row that sounds like your skin, then expect the plan to shift after your first visit. Every one of our facials in Dallas starts with a skin analysis, so treat this table as a starting point.
| Skin type or concern | How often | Usual facial at BC Beauty Spa |
|---|---|---|
| Normal or combination | Every 4 to 6 weeks | Classic Deep Cleansing Facial (90 min) |
| Oily or congested, blackheads | Every 4 weeks | Classic Deep Cleansing Facial (90 min) |
| Active breakouts | Every 2 to 3 weeks for 2 or 3 visits, then monthly | Acne Facial (60 min) |
| Dry, dull, or tight | Every 4 weeks | Hydrating Glow Facial (90 min) |
| Sensitive or rosacea-prone | Every 6 to 8 weeks | First Time Glow Facial to start, then a gentle plan |
| Texture, acne scars, fine lines | A series, sessions about a month apart | Microneedling Facial (120 min) |
| Loss of firmness | Every 4 to 6 weeks | Facial Rejuvenation (75 min) |
| First facial ever | One visit, then we set your schedule | First Time Glow Facial (60 min) |
Prices are further down, under the yearly cost question. If two rows sound like you, our guide to choosing a facial for your skin type sorts out which one to book first.
Why do most facial schedules land on 4 to 6 weeks?
Your outer skin layer runs on a cycle. New cells form at the base of the epidermis, move up, and shed from the surface after about a month, according to Cleveland Clinic. A facial timed to that cycle clears the dead cells, oil, and sunscreen residue that collected since your last visit.
No clinical trial sets an exact number of weeks between facials. Estheticians use 4 to 6 weeks as a working rule, and you can check it yourself. If your pores look clogged again by week three, come sooner. If your skin still looks clear at week six, stretch to eight.
How often should you get a facial for acne or dark spots?
Breakouts and clogged pores. Start closer together: every 2 to 3 weeks for the first two or three visits, then monthly once your skin settles. Between visits, keep your hands off. The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) warns that picking or squeezing makes acne take longer to clear and raises your risk of scars. The AAD also says acne care can take several weeks to a few months to show a difference, so judge a facial series after the third visit. If breakouts keep coming, see a board-certified dermatologist. Facials work alongside a dermatologist's treatment and do not replace it.
Dark spots. Go gentle and stay consistent. The AAD cautions that aggressive exfoliation can leave more dark spots, especially on darker skin tones. I would rather keep you at every 4 to 6 weeks with mild exfoliation and daily SPF than treat harder or more often.
Texture and acne scars. Microneedling follows its own clock. Cleveland Clinic says sessions are usually spaced 3 to 8 weeks apart, and results can take 3 to 6 months to show. Our microneedling guide covers downtime and how many sessions to plan for.
How often is too often for a facial on sensitive or rosacea-prone skin?
For reactive skin, a facial more often than every 6 weeks is usually too much. The AAD's warning on exfoliation is short: overdo it and your skin turns red and irritated. For rosacea, its dermatologists advise against rubbing, scrubbing, or massaging the skin.
A sensitive-skin visit at BC runs calmer: exfoliation matched to what your skin tolerates, extractions only where you need them, and more weeks between appointments. If you have a rosacea or eczema diagnosis, check with your dermatologist before you book.
Tell me what you use at home, too. The AAD notes that exfoliating while you use retinol, a prescription retinoid, or benzoyl peroxide can worsen dryness or trigger breakouts. Pull back, at home and in the treatment room, if you notice:
- Redness or irritation that lingers after you exfoliate
- Dryness or peeling that keeps getting worse
- New breakouts after each exfoliation
Does facial frequency change in your 20s, 30s, 40s, and 50s?
Your age affects which facial you book more than how often you come. One study of skin renewal found that the surface layer turned over in about 20 days in young adults and took more than 10 days longer in older adults, and that the slowdown gets steeper after age 50. Skin also gets drier as we age, the AAD notes.
- 20s and 30s: every 4 to 6 weeks. Breakouts and the first sun spots are the common concerns, so deep cleansing and a daily SPF habit do most of the work.
- 40s: every 4 weeks if dryness or dullness bothers you, with a hydrating focus.
- 50s and up: a steady 4 to 6 weeks. Renewal slows and skin runs drier, so mild exfoliation with rich hydration suits this decade better than aggressive treatments.
Do Dallas heat and air conditioning change how often you need a facial?
From June through September in North Texas you sweat more, wear more sunscreen, and spend the day in air conditioning. The AAD advises washing your face after sweating, and it notes that heat and air conditioning pull moisture from the air, which can dry your skin. If you live or work in Dallas, Plano, Addison, Richardson, Frisco, or Carrollton, you know the loop: heavy heat outside, cold dry air indoors.
Through the summer, hold a 4-week rhythm if sweat and sunscreen leave you congested, and lean on deep cleansing. When your skin feels tight from air conditioning or winter heating, switch to the Hydrating Glow Facial and keep the same spacing.
Sunscreen stays year-round. The AAD recommends a broad-spectrum, water-resistant SPF 30 or higher on any skin your clothes do not cover. For the rest of your daily routine, read our glowing skin habits for Dallas heat.
How much do regular facials cost per year in Dallas?
A single facial at BC Beauty Spa costs $89 to $189, so your yearly total depends on the facial and the spacing.
| Plan | Visits per year | Math | Yearly cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Classic Deep Cleansing Facial every 4 weeks | 13 | 13 × $99 | $1,287 |
| Classic Deep Cleansing Facial every 6 weeks | 9 | 9 × $99 | $891 |
| Hydrating Glow Facial every 4 weeks | 13 | 13 × $119 | $1,547 |
| A $99 facial every 8 weeks | 6 or 7 | 6 or 7 × $99 | $594 to $693 |
| Glow & Hydration Facial Package, one visit a month | 12 | 4 packages × $249 | $996 |
| BC Beauty Membership, one facial a month | 12 | 12 × $99 | $1,188 |
The Glow & Hydration Facial Package is 3 facials for $249, which comes to $83 a visit. Each visit includes deep cleansing, exfoliation, intensive hydration, and a personalized mask. Three single $99 facials cost $297, so the package saves you $48 each time you buy it.
The BC Beauty Membership is $99 a month and includes one facial, 10% off treatments, VIP promotions, and a free skin consultation. Across a year that is $192 more than four packages, so it earns its keep only if you book enough beyond the monthly facial for the 10% to close the gap. If facials are all you come in for, the package is the cheaper route. Compare both on the packages and membership page, which always beats this table for current pricing, and check the services page for promotions.
What should you do between facials?
A facial takes 60 to 120 minutes. Your home routine covers the rest of the month, and the AAD basics are short:
- Wash your face up to twice a day and after sweating, using your fingertips and a gentle cleanser.
- Put on moisturizer while your skin is still damp.
- Wear broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher every morning, and reapply about every two hours outdoors.
- Match exfoliation to your skin: the stronger the product, the less often you use it.
- Leave breakouts alone.
Every facial at BC ends with SPF and a short list of product recommendations for your skin, with no pressure to buy.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a facial cost at BC Beauty Spa in North Dallas?
Facials start at $89 for the 60-minute First Time Glow Facial. The Classic Deep Cleansing Facial is $99, the Hydrating Glow Facial $119, the Acne Facial $120, Facial Rejuvenation $165, and the Microneedling Facial $189. The Glow & Hydration Facial Package brings three visits down to $83 each.
How long do facial results last?
Expect the fresh look to fade over a few weeks. A facial clears pores and hydrates the surface, and your outer skin layer renews about once a month, so oil and dead cells collect again on that clock. A steady home routine with daily SPF stretches the result.
Can you get a facial too often?
Yes. The AAD warns that too much exfoliation leaves skin red and irritated, and a weekly facial with exfoliation and extractions is more than most skin needs. The one exception we plan on purpose is a short acne series every 2 to 3 weeks, which we move to monthly as your skin calms.
How far ahead of an event should you book a facial?
Book your last facial 5 to 7 days before a wedding, quinceañera, or photo day. Light redness after extractions usually settles within a few hours, and a week gives your skin extra room. Save first-time treatments for another month: Cleveland Clinic notes that microneedling can leave skin red and swollen for up to five days.
Is one facial worth it if you cannot come every month?
Yes. One visit gives you a skin analysis, a deep clean, and a home routine written for your skin. A seasonal schedule of four visits a year still gives your skin a reset when the weather shifts, and it costs $396 a year at $99 a visit.
