Microneedling: What to Expect

Microneedling has earned its reputation: it is one of the few treatments that genuinely rebuilds skin rather than just polishing the surface. It is also surrounded by scary photos and exaggerated claims. Here is the honest version, from how it feels to when you will actually see results at BC Beauty Spa.

How it works

A professional microneedling device creates thousands of microscopic channels in the skin. Each one is a tiny, controlled signal that tells your body: repair here. Your skin responds by producing fresh collagen and elastin, the proteins that keep skin smooth and firm. Over the following weeks, texture refines, acne scars soften, pores look smaller, and fine lines fill in from below.

What it feels like

We apply a numbing cream and let it work for about 20 minutes, so the treatment itself feels like light sandpaper vibration rather than pain. Most clients rate it a 2 or 3 out of 10. The full appointment takes about an hour, and the strangest part is honestly the sound, not the sensation.

The first 72 hours

You will leave looking like you caught some sun: pink to red, warm, maybe slightly tight. Day two brings mild dryness, day three some light flaking. This is the repair process working. Skip makeup for 24 hours, skip the gym and saunas for 48, and wear SPF religiously, because new skin burns easily. We send you home with exact instructions and the right healing products.

When results arrive

This is where honesty matters: collagen is slow. You will see an early glow at the one-week mark when the surface has renewed, but the real changes, smoother texture and softer scars, build between weeks 4 and 12 as collagen matures. For acne scarring we typically recommend a series of 3 sessions spaced about a month apart. One session refreshes; a series transforms.

Who should skip it

Active breakouts, open skin, pregnancy, or recent isotretinoin use mean we wait. Your intake form covers all of this, and if microneedling is not right for you yet, we will say so and suggest what is.
