Post-Op Lymphatic Massage: A Recovery Guide

June 12, 2026 · 2 min read

You planned your procedure carefully. Your recovery deserves the same attention, because the weeks after surgery are when your final results are actually decided. Post-op lymphatic massage is one of our signature services at BC Beauty Spa in Dallas, and this guide answers the questions every recovering client asks us.

Why surgeons recommend it

Liposuction, BBLs, tummy tucks, and similar procedures disrupt the fine lymphatic channels under your skin. Until those channels heal, fluid accumulates in the treated areas: that is the swelling, tightness, and hardness you feel in the first weeks. Manual lymphatic drainage moves that fluid toward healthy lymph nodes using light, rhythmic, directional strokes, which reduces swelling sooner and helps skin settle smoothly over its new contours.

The fibrosis question

Fibrosis is the word recovering clients fear: areas of hard, uneven, sometimes lumpy tissue that can form where fluid and inflammation sat too long. Early, consistent lymphatic massage is one of the best-supported ways to help prevent it, because fluid that keeps moving cannot organize into hardened tissue. If small firm areas have already formed, we adapt the technique to work them gently across several sessions.

When to start and how many sessions

Your surgeon's protocol always comes first: bring it to us and we work within it. As general orientation, most clients are cleared for gentle lymphatic work within the first week, often around day 3 to 5, and the standard recommendation is 8 to 12 sessions through the first weeks of recovery. That is exactly why our Post-Op Recovery package, 10 sessions for $600, exists: it matches the protocol most surgeons hand their patients, at $60 per session instead of $99.

What sessions are like at BC Beauty Spa

Gentle, private, and unhurried. We work around incisions and faja schedules, explain everything as we go, and adjust to whatever stage of healing you are in. Berenice is a licensed Medical Assistant as well as an esthetician, and post-op clients consistently tell us the sessions were the turning point where recovery started feeling manageable. Service is fully bilingual.
