Body Sculpting and Maderotherapy
Does Non-Invasive Body Contouring Work?
By Berenice CasneiroFounder of BC Beauty Spa11 min read

Quick answer
Yes, within limits. Non-invasive body contouring can make a treated area look smoother and measure a little smaller across a series of sessions. It does not cause weight loss and it does not match liposuction. Results are modest, they vary from body to body, and they fade without upkeep. At BC Beauty Spa, sessions start at $79 and most plans run 5 to 10 weekly visits.
Does non-invasive body contouring work, according to research?
It works on a small scale. Before-and-after photos online make spa contouring look like surgery without the stitches, and researchers who measure these treatments report smaller changes. We would rather you hear that before you book a body contouring session in North Dallas.
The FDA describes non-invasive body contouring as changing the shape of one area without removing tissue, and it states that these procedures do not produce weight loss or treat obesity. The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) calls the results of non-invasive fat removal subtle: pants that fit a little looser, a belly that looks a little flatter.
A 2015 review pulled together 31 studies and 2,937 patients. It covered four device types: low-level laser, fat freezing, focused ultrasound, and radiofrequency. The authors concluded that several of these devices can take 2 centimeters or more off the measurement around the abdomen, hips, or thighs. They also flagged that treatment plans, body areas, and follow-up times differed from study to study.
Every study in that review used a device. None used wooden tools or hands alone, and hands-on methods such as maderotherapy have far less research behind them. Those device studies also ran in clinical settings, so no one should assume a spa session matches them. We do not borrow numbers from a study and promise them to you. We tell you what clients report, check your progress as the series goes, and adjust the plan.
Which body contouring methods does BC Beauty Spa use?
Founder Berenice Casneiro does every session one-on-one, in English or Spanish, and the first visit starts with a talk about what the treatment can and cannot change. A plan here mixes hands-on sculpting with a few energy-based treatments. Our packages list them by name:
| Method | What it is | What the evidence says |
|---|---|---|
| Maderotherapy (wood therapy) | Firm, rhythmic massage with shaped wooden tools | Little clinical research exists on wood therapy itself. The FDA says massaging skin and fat with a rolling or vibrating handpiece may temporarily improve the look of cellulite in the treated area. That statement covers a device, not wooden tools. |
| Lymphatic drainage strokes | Light massage that moves fluid toward the lymph nodes | Cleveland Clinic describes it as a gentle technique that eases swelling from fluid buildup. Most of the research covers lymphedema. It moves fluid and leaves fat where it is. |
| Ultrasonic cavitation | Ultrasound energy aimed at the fat layer under the skin | The FDA says ultrasound devices may reduce the measurement around a treated area. The AAD found no evidence that ultrasound alone reduces cellulite. |
| Radiofrequency | Controlled heat delivered through the skin | The AAD reports a small, short-lived change in cellulite after several treatments. |
| Lipo laser (low-level laser) | Low-energy laser light applied over the skin | The FDA says low-level laser may temporarily reduce circumference in the treated area. In a 2009 placebo-controlled trial, 67 people had six sessions over two weeks and measured about 3.5 inches less across waist, hips, and both thighs combined. Two weeks after the last session, the treated group had gained about a third of an inch back. |
The Body Sculpting Package pairs the first four with LED red light. VIP Body Transformation runs those four with lipo laser and personalized follow-up instead. Both are on the packages page with what each one includes.

What results can you expect from body contouring, and how soon?
Expect a gradual change that builds across a series. The timeline below reflects what clients commonly report, and your body may move faster or slower.
| Point in the series | What clients commonly report |
|---|---|
| After 1 session | Clients commonly describe feeling lighter and less bloated. Any visible difference at this point is temporary. |
| After 3 to 5 weekly sessions | Definition starts to show and hold, most often at the waist and abdomen. |
| After a full series of 5 to 10 sessions | The change shows in how clothes fit and in photos. |
Light redness in the treated area is normal and fades within a few hours. You can go back to work or errands right after.
Non-invasive body contouring cannot do these things:
- Lower the number on the scale. The FDA is direct about that.
- Remove fat the way liposuction does.
- Take away loose skin. Cleveland Clinic lists surgical lifts and tucks for that.
- Erase cellulite for good. The AAD reports that most non-surgical cellulite treatments give temporary improvement.
- Hold its results without effort from you between visits.
Who is a good candidate for non-invasive body contouring?
The AAD describes the best candidate as someone with a small bulge of fat that stays despite diet and exercise, at a weight in the normal range. Cleveland Clinic adds that being at your ideal weight improves body contouring results.
You are likely a good fit if:
- Your weight is stable and close to where you want it.
- One or two areas bother you: the waist, abdomen, arms, or legs.
- You hold fluid or feel bloated often.
- You want no needles and no recovery time.
- You can come once a week for 5 to 10 weeks.
- A gradual, natural-looking change sounds right to you.
Wait, or ask your doctor first, if:
- You are pregnant or breastfeeding.
- You have a pacemaker, another active implant, or metal under the skin in the area. The FDA lists these as reasons to avoid ultrasound and radiofrequency.
- You have open wounds, broken skin, or an active skin infection. The FDA lists open wounds and compromised skin as reasons not to have an ultrasound procedure, and asks you to tell your provider about any active skin infection.
- You have blood clots, heart disease, kidney failure, or an infection. Cleveland Clinic lists all four as reasons to avoid lymphatic drainage massage.
- You had surgery in recent months. Your surgeon decides when massage can start, and our post-op lymphatic massage page explains how we follow those instructions.
We ask about all of this at your first visit. If contouring is the wrong fit, we say so and suggest something else. If you hope to drop several sizes, this treatment will disappoint you, and a doctor can talk you through weight loss options.
How does non-invasive body contouring compare with liposuction?
The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) puts it in one line: none of the non-surgical treatments replace liposuction. They suit people who cannot or do not want to have surgery.
| Question | Non-invasive contouring at a spa | Liposuction |
|---|---|---|
| What happens | Massage and energy-based treatments on top of the skin | Surgery that removes fat from specific areas |
| Size of change | Subtle and gradual, over weeks | More noticeable and immediate |
| Recovery | No recovery time. Light redness can last a few hours. | Weeks to months, per Cleveland Clinic |
| Weight loss | No | No. ASPS says liposuction does not treat obesity. |
| Cellulite | May look smoother for a while | ASPS says liposuction is not an effective cellulite treatment |
| Price | From $79 a session at BC Beauty Spa | Set by each surgeon. We do not quote surgery. |
We do not offer fat freezing or fat-dissolving injections. Those belong in a clinic. Deciding on surgery is a conversation for you and a board-certified plastic surgeon. If you choose lipo, our post-op massage recovery guide covers the massage side of healing, on your surgeon's timeline.
How do you keep body contouring results?
Results respond to how you live between sessions. We ask clients for four things:
- Drink water through the day. Dallas summers make it easy to fall behind.
- Move every day, even if it is only a walk after dinner.
- Keep a week between sessions. Spacing the series does more for the result than squeezing it into a shorter window.
- Hold your weight steady. The AAD notes that fat cells left in a treated area expand if you gain weight.
After a series, you can book single sessions as maintenance. The FDA suggests three questions for any provider: how many treatments you need, how long the effect lasts, and whether you need more sessions to maintain it. Bring them to your first visit.

Frequently asked questions
Is non-invasive body contouring the same as lipo?
No. Liposuction is surgery that removes fat. Spa body contouring works on top of the skin to move fluid, smooth texture, and define the area, with no recovery time. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons states that non-surgical treatments do not replace liposuction.
How many body contouring sessions do you need to see results?
Most clients feel less bloated after one session and start to see definition after 3 to 5 weekly sessions. A full series runs 5 to 10 sessions. Bodies respond at different speeds, so we check progress as the series goes.
Does body contouring help you lose weight?
No. The FDA states that non-invasive body contouring does not produce weight loss or treat obesity. It reshapes one area by a small amount, and it works best when your weight is already stable.
How long do body contouring results last?
It depends on the method and on your habits. The FDA describes the effects of massage-type and low-level laser treatments as temporary, so plan on upkeep. In the 2009 laser trial, the treated group had already gained back about a third of an inch two weeks after the last session. Steady weight, water, daily movement, and maintenance sessions help hold the look longer.
How much does body contouring cost in Dallas?
At BC Beauty Spa, a 75-minute Body Contouring session costs $79. The Body Sculpting Package is 5 sessions for $450, and VIP Body Transformation is 10 sessions for $799. The Men's Body Definition Package is 5 sessions for $499.
Does body contouring hurt?
The hands-on part feels like a firm, rhythmic massage, and we adjust the pressure to your comfort. Light redness in the treated area is normal and fades within a few hours. Tell us right away if anything feels sharp or painful.
